War of Chaos: Story of Kindarspirit
By: Shadow the Hedgehog 2099
***Author’s Comments*** A couple quick things to note: the “War of Chaos” fan fiction is to be read under the preconceived notion that all the “Story” chapters occur at roughly the same time and come to the final chapter at the same time. Any time/space discrepancies are unintentional and unplanned, if one of those just so happens to occur between the different story paths, so be it—a wizard did it.
She was suited up for another long, tough day of tennis. A white tank top, with an athletic skirt with pink frills and her sweatband on her head and her pink-handled racket, she was ready to Game-Set-Match anyone on the opposite field. All she needed now was the best tennis player she knew—the heavyset Fiona the Hedgehog, a brown-furred, blue-eyed hedgehog with deadly power. Kindar picked up the phone in the early morning of a rainy day and heard her friend pick up. After a few moments of girl chat Kindar extended the invitation to play with her to Fiona.
“I’m sorry, Kindar,” Fiona the explained over the phone, “I’m just not much of a tennis player, y’know?”
“What are you talking about?” Kindar demanded, swinging her arms in frustration, “You have the best backhand of anyone I’ve played with! We could dominate at the indoor court this afternoon!”
“To be able to play tennis in public you need a good backhand and a good backside, only one of which do I have,” Fiona sighed, “The last time I went down there, an entire section of the audience began to chant ‘off the court, whale’! I don’t think so,”
“Aww! C’mon, please?” Kindar begged, “If you don’t, I’ll have to play in the singles bout and that’s really no fun!”
“Sorry, Kindar,” Fiona sighed, “I have a cake in the oven, so I need to go. Talk to you later,” she chimed as she hung up the phone. Kindar pouted for a few moments before deciding to go on ahead anyways and she set off from her apartment down to the streets and just walked through the rain, ignoring the fact that she could’ve just gone back up to her apartment and gotten an umbrella, but the clouds looked like they were breaking up anyways, so she didn’t mind. Just as the thought passed in her mind, she looked up to see the rain parting right over her head and stopping, but just as suddenly a little teal bird fell from above and beamed her right on the head.
In spite of the bump, she caught the little bird in her hands and paused, “Ow… hey, that hurt. Are you all right?” The bird let out a series of chirps and whines to express its distress but Kindar shook her head, “I can’t understand you,” she sighed. She then noticed an odd little locket the bird was wearing, “Oh? That’s pretty. I’ve never seen a bird carry one of those before…” she shrugged, “Can you fly?” the bird chirped more so Kindar sighed, “I’ll take that as a no,” Just then out of the corner of her eye, she saw the tall Eggman robot named Ishnt coming after her with a steadily increasing gait. “Oh, nutbunnies,” she sighed as she turned tail and ran.
“You’re not going anywhere, little lady!” Ishnt grinned as his sword extended from his right hand.
“Go away!” Kindar demanded as she twirled around and to Ishnt’s shock, she was holding a small teal flicky bird in her hand that had a strange locket around its neck. She whipped out her laser sword’s hilt and stuffed her tennis racket into the holster and extended the blade, tucking the little bird into her hair.
“Please,” Ishnt snickered as his left hand shifted into his usual buster gun and aimed it at her.
“Go ahead and try!” Kindar dared, “I’ve trained in sword arts that were specially for stopping guns!”
“You da’ boss,” Ishnt sneered as he let out a volley of wild shots, and to his surprise Kindar managed to parry them with relative ease. Ishnt sighed and then shrugged as he dashed forward as a blur and began going blade-to-blade with the blonde lady. This lasted for a matter of minutes as Kindar was clearly too passive to be any real threat to Ishnt and he began laughing. In her frustration Kindar suddenly broke out her tennis racket and let Ishnt have a good, hard whap across his face, sending him reeling back and then she took off into a mad dash.
Kindar then hid in a narrow alley as she watched Ishntknew run by in frustration. She waited for what felt like an eternity before sliding out and checking around her. “Whew,” she sighed as she took her bird friend out of her locks, “We’re safe now, little one,” She then took her bird friend and set off in the opposite way Ishnt went. A bit of time and a quick lunch went by as Kindar and her little bird went on walking, hoping to find someone they knew, but found no one, so she decided to rest in the park under a tree. She sighed for a moment as she tried to focus but was scared witless when Dr. Eggman showed up.
“Oh! Ms. Spirit! How nice to run into you here!” Eggman beamed.
“Eggman!” Kindar gasped as he rose to her feet and whipped out her laser sword’s hilt and held it defensively, “Why are you here?” she demanded, hiding her flicky bird friend behind her.
“Quite simply put, your birdie friend has something I want!” Eggman snickered, “And I’ll be taking it now!”
“Go away!” Kindar growled, extending the blade from the handle and got ready to attack, “I mean it!”
“Oh~ yeah!” Eggman scoffed, “That’s so scary! Like, I’m not expecting you to wield that or something!”
Kindar whimpered, “Go away, Eggman! I’ve had a really bad day and I don’t wanna fight anymore,”
“Aww, don’t cry now!” Eggman raised his eyebrows almost sympathetically, “Just hand over the bird and I’ll leave, how’s that sound?”
“No way!” Kindar snapped.
“Well! There’s no need to be rude about it!” Eggman huffed as he peered over at the lake, “~Chaos~!” At his call, the water creature rose from the lake and trudged heavily onto the shore and Eggman tossed him the second emerald, which caused its other arm to extend and strengthen, then the rest of its body grew a bit larger in size, “Oh! Nice one, Chaos! Take care of this pest!”
“That’s the water monster Shadow beat earlier today!” Kindar gasped, “Well, I’ll trash it too! Stay back, little bird!” The bird chirped, frightened, and hid in Kindar’s long, blonde locks as she brandished her sword towards the stoic Chaos Two. Kindar held her pose for a moment as Chaos rushed forward and swung one of its arms towards her. She rolled off to the side then ran forward and slashed her sword through its body, which did no visible damage to the creature that merely twirled around and struck her in the back, and sent her to the dirt below. Kindar growled and got up again and dusted off her now-dusty pink tennis outfit and twirled the sword around her wrist and got ready again.
Chaos leaped up into the air and tried to bring its large limbs down on the girl, but she anticipated as much and somersaulted forward, then returned to her feet and jabbed her blade through its large body, but it turned around—all the while impaled—and sent Kindar down to the ground again with a single punch. She growled and jumped back to her feet and swung the sword vertically through its head and body, causing the watery enemy to leap back in agony and receding into a puddle again. Kindar gasped, “Its head! Its head is its weak point!”
Chaos then returned up and got ready to strike again and Kindar got into a defensive pose, but the bubbly beast curled into a large ball and tackled and flattened her out on the ground and bounced a few feet to the side. Kindar grunted but returned to her feet, and panted as she then decided to go on the attack and hurled herself through the air and jabbed her sword through Chaos Two’s head, dropping him into drip once again before she crashed into the dirt for the fourth time. “This has been most amusing!” Eggman cackled, “And for making it so, I’ll let you go. (Hey! That rhymed too! I’m a poet and I didn’t even know it!) But mark my words: you won’t be so lucky next time, girl!”
Kindar gazed up weakly as Eggman beamed Chaos aboard his hovercraft and was off like a shot towards the city limits. “What was that all about?!” Kindar sighed as she slid her birdy buddy out of her hair, “Why is Eggman after us?” The bird was just as confused as she was, so they set off to try to find someone they could trust. She tried Fiona’s house but she was gone, she tried Shadow’s house but he was gone too. She then got frustrated as she and her bird were totally alone. Alone, that is, until dusk when she looked skyward and saw Shadow the Hedgehog falling from above and crash down to the ground. Kindar hesitated before looking at her bird and saying, “Everyone’s doing that today, huh?”
Kindar ran down the nearest streets to his impact that she could find and saw him walking, dejectedly down the street. He then looked up and saw her, “Kindar!” Shadow gasped, “Hey, what’s up?” he felt slightly uplifted to see a smiling face.
“Nothing much. But that water creature you beat wasn’t dead! It attacked me, but its arms were really big and Eggman called it Chaos Two and… are you okay? You look like you just got run over by a street sweeper,” Kindar went on.
“It’s a long story,” Shadow sighed. He then noticed a small flicky bird sitting on Kindar’s shoulder. “What’s the deal with that?” Shadow asked.
“Dunno,” Kindar shrugged, “I found it after my tennis game and that Ishnt robot tried to kidnap it. I protected it and now it has been following me around all day,”
After noticing a small brown locket around the bird’s neck Shadow shrugged, “Well, if Eggman wants it, we can’t let him have it. He already has four chaos emeralds and we can’t let him have anything more he wants right now,” Shadow confidently nodded and began skating off, with Kindar running right behind him. Shadow then said, “We need to find out where Fiona and the next chaos emeralds are!”
“Right,” Kindar agreed, “But where do we start looking, then?” Shadow shrugged and then Kindar looked over her shoulder and gasped, “It’s Ishnt!”
Shadow twirled around and saw the badnik known only as Ishntknew walking towards them, “I got it, you get going with the bird, Kindarspirit,” Shadow declared.
“And let me guess,” Ishnt sighed, “You’re going to try and stop me from getting the bird, aren’t you?”
“Oh, I’ll give ya the bird all right,” Shadow sneered, making an obscene gesture at Ishntknew.
“That’s not funny,” Ishnt sighed, “Forget it! This is where your meddling ends!”
In the meantime, Kindar had fled the scene in hopes of finding someone to help them. As she ran she suddenly found her bird friend taken right out of her hands. When she turned to look at who did such a thing, she saw the bird in the hands of the tall chicken robot, Scratch. “You move and the bird gets it, lady!” he announced. Kindar placed her hands over her head in surrender. Moments later, the three robots brought Kindar back to Ishnt and Shadow, who had just paused in their fight.
“Had enough?” Shadow mockingly shouted.
Ishnt slowly got up, clearing his head, “I’ll take you apart any day of the week!” Just then, rather bad news for Shadow came up, “But you might want to look over your shoulder, hedgehog!”
“Huh?” Shadow gasped as he quickly peered over and there stood Scratch, Grounder and Coconuts all holding Kindar and her little bird friend captive, “Kindarspirit!” Shadow exclaimed.
“Give up now, Shadow,” Ishnt demanded, “If you do, I promise nothing bad will befall your blonde friend,” Shadow silently stood in thought. “How about it, Shadow? Are you going to take me up on my offer?” Ishnt asked, seriously.
“Yeah,” Shadow sighed, frustrated, “I give, just don’t hurt Kindar,”
“Good choice,” Ishnt smiled and he then walked past Shadow and as he passed he stopped to whisper, “There are bigger things happening now than you and me. We’ll finish our fight another day—but for right now, your friend has something we need,” and with that, Ishnt and the other three robot assistants were taken up via tractor beam from the Egg Carrier that had just arrived overhead and vanished into its red hull. Ishnt had only just arrived with his captive as Eggman addressed him.
. “Oh-ho!” Eggman exclaimed joyously, “You really know how to make my day, don’t you, Ishnt?”
“Well, it was easy,” Ishnt smirked, “Here’s the bird and the girl!”
“We’ll beam Chaos up from the mountain springs in the Red Mountains,” Eggman planned, “Then we’ll worry about these two, but for now, lock them in a cell and make sure they stay there this time as well! (Ooo-hooo! I am on a roll today!)”
“Certainly,” Ishnt smiled, leading Kindar and her flicky bird down the hall.
“You are such a creep,” Kindar growled as her arms were pinned to her side by Ishnt’s powerful hands, “Why did you need to capture me?”
“Doctor’s orders,” Ishnt smirked, “But if you really must know, it’s because of your bird friend. That’s all I’m going to say about that,” he told her as he roughly shoved her into a prison cell and locked the door, “And I swear I’ll kill you if you tell anyone about that tennis racket thing,” he scowled as he walked away.
Kindar pouted, “He’s just mad cuz I whooped him,” She then looked sympathetically down at the bird, “Now what do we do?” The bird cocked it head off to the side. Kindar sighed and pulled her legs up to her chest, wrapped her arms around them and rested her face on them, “I’m so useless… every time something bad happens, the others have to come and save me…” The bird hopped up on her shoulder and gently brushed his wing against her ear, causing her to jump in surprise, “Huh?” she gasped. The bird let out a series of chirps as it fluttered its wings seeming to punctuate whatever it was it was trying to convey.
Kindar stopped to think before saying, “Are you saying that Shadow and Fiona risk their lives for me only because they care for me and now because it’s a burden?” the bird joyously nodded, “Yeah! You’re right!” Kindar stood up, “Now! Let’s get out of here!” She then whipped out her sword (which she had hidden earlier by hiding it in her thick hair) and struck the bars, but it didn’t even heat them up. “Oh, darn it! They must’ve expected that… I guess we are stuck for now,” Kindar sat down and plotted ways they could escape. Time rolled by before lots of commotion was heard down the hall—including the noises of a raging battle. “What’s going on?” she asked as she stood up.
Just as quickly Fiona ran into the room. Fiona smiled as she saw her, albeit warily and exclaimed, “Kindar!”
“Fiona!” Kindar shouted back, “You look hurt, are you all right?”
“I’m fine!” Fiona grinned, “Just a little worn out. Let’s do Shadow and the others a favor and shake this place up a bit!”
“Right! I saw where the engine room was before Ishntknew brought me here!” Kindar grinned as Fiona pushed the button to open the cell. The two girls ran for the engine room and found Scratch, Grounder and Coconuts having just finished their repairs standing right in front of the Egg Carrier’s main generator.
Upon seeing them Fiona exclaimed, “Dingbots!”
“Hey!” Scratch shouted back, “No one calls us dingbots except Dr. Robotnik!”
“That’s right!” the nasal robot, Grounder, agreed, “And only when he’s very, very upset!”
“Let’s take these girls apart! I mean, everyone knows that girls can’t fight, right?” Coconuts grinned as he tried to mimic a karate pose he once saw on a movie.
“Can’t fight, huh?” Kindar growled, taking out her laser sword and hiding her birdie friend away in her hair.
“We’ll show you who can’t fight!” Fiona scowled as her fire sword extended from its rune, “Let’s get ‘em!” In moments, Scratch, Grounder and Coconuts all returned to the scrap heap and the girls played with every button, lever and switch they could find on the engine when they suddenly did something they probably shouldn’t have. Steam began shooting out of the metal which quickly became red from the heat, pipes began to burst wildly, alarms sounded, gauges went off the chart and one small component even exploded, freeing a large chunk of the Master Emerald which landed in Kindar’s arms. “That’s great but, Uhh…” Fiona paused, “Let’s go!” They then turned tail and returned up to the deck where Shadow and Knuckles stood victoriously over Chaos Six.
“What did you two do?!” Shadow gasped as they returned to the deck, and Kindar forked over the chunk of the Master Emerald to Knuckles, who promptly thanked her.
Fiona grinned innocently, “Well, we got into a little fight down there with Scratch, Grounder and Coconuts—and well, it was near the ship’s generator and…” she trailed off. Shadow and Knuckles stared at them, deadpan.
“No!” Eggman cried out, “It keeps getting worse! The power supply’s going haywire! I’m getting out of here!!!” Eggman turned his hovercraft around and attempted to fly away.
“You’re not going anywhere, Doc!” Shadow yelled out and began viciously skating at him.
“Shadow! Where are you going?!” Kindar shouted out. Just then, the shaking on the ship became all the more intense, so Kindar and Fiona made a beeline for the biplane and Knuckles, with the final shard of the emerald, leaped off the side and used his dreadlocks as wings and gracefully glided away from the falling Egg Carrier. Shadow, on the other hand, was forced to make a large leap after Eggman but missed by only a few inches and fell right for the Mystic Ruins below him.
“Shadow!!!” Fiona howled out after her falling fiancée, “Shadow! Oh…” she trailed off in fret.
“What do we do now, do we go after him?” Kindar asked as she took control of the plane.
“I guess we have no choice!” Fiona worried, “We have to get Shadow and stop that water monster from getting the last Chaos Emerald! If it does, we’ll have a lot more to worry about than gravity… it’d become Perfect Chaos!”
